The University of Bologna in collaboration with AUTEC srl, tames the waters of the Principality of Monaco with the Red Wave team and takes the stage at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2025, the most prestigious international competition dedicated to sustainable boating, hosted by the Yacht Club de Monaco.
The Red Wave use an electric outboard engine, COMPETR, developed by the Department of Industrial Engineering and a powertrain developed and built in collaboration with AUTEC srl had to complete sixteen nautical miles, one of the toughest challenges of the competition, designed to test the reliability and durability of the propulsion systems in real conditions. The team also won first place in the manoeuvrability test, demonstrating excellent integration between the propulsion system and the hull, and confirming the extraordinary responsiveness and precision of the control.

Forty-two university teams from twenty different countries took part in the event, and the Red Wave team won the SeaLab Class, demonstrating how the studies carried out over the years have paid off, pushing the nautical world ever more towards sustainable solutions.
